Day 3—Auckland,
New Zealand
After being here for two days we are
finally starting to adjust to the time change. We started off the day by going
to the flea market where we had the chance to shop for souvenirs and enjoy the
nice weather while we experienced more of their culture here in New Zealand.
When we left the market we had to exchange the white rabbit because her engine
was getting weak; so the coaches dropped us off for lunch while they went to
get a new bus, we all camped out in McDonalds trying to connect to the free
wifi, but we were very unsuccessful. Next, Sam’s dance moves entertained us all
the way to Macky and Audrey’s host family’s home where Marilyn showed us her
sheep Binky and allowed us to pet and feed it—meanwhile Lauren got poop in her
toes and while kneeling to pet Binky, Cydney got poop all over her pants—we had
a real farm experience. Our next stop was Piha, the black sand beach. The soft
volcanic sand and the big waves made for a memorable beach experience and
beautiful pictures. Many of us played in the water and enjoyed the view—Kiahna
got to have her first ocean experience here in New Zealand. Due to our volleyball
match being cancelled in the evening we had the opportunity to go to a Rugby
game, which was the first one for the most of us. Daniel taught us the rules
and THE WARRIORS WON!!!! It was a thrilling experience. It was our last night
with our Auckland host families, we are sad to leave them, but grateful for the
new friendships we have developed. The memories we’ve made in Auckland are some
we will never forget, and we anxiously await the adventures Hamilton has in
store for us.
