Day 7: Pesega,
Samoa
Our
first day in Samoa! We woke up bright and early at 7am, earlier than we have
this whole trip! After Daniel and Scotty came and picked us up we came back to
Pesega to Sam’s cousin’s house and made a huge breakfast. Once everyone was
done eating and cleaning up a couple of us had the chance to walk around the
Samoa temple grounds, which is across the street! How cool is that to have a
temple that close? I think living in Utah we are so blessed to have multiple
temples we can go to whenever we want. A few people stayed at the house and
Daniel taught some of the girls how to throw a rugby ball. Our next stop was to the flea market in the
city. A couple of us went a little souvenir crazy and spent a lot, but it was
worth it. All of us bought our lava lava’s and we were so excited to get to wear
them later that night. After the market we then headed to eat some lunch at
Sunrise, a Chinese restaurant. We had told Sam just to order whatever and we’ll
eat it. Well I think he overestimated how much we could eat. There was so much
left over, like plates and plates full, oh well, left overs are always good.
Soon after lunch we had two options: to either go to sliding rock or have more
time to get ready for our cultural experience later that night, yeah it was a
no brainer to go to the sliding rock. It was such a blast! The water was
perfect that we forgot all about the humidity when surrounded by the jungle and
all its beauty! We then headed to the next activity, which was our Samoan
cultural experience. We headed to Sam’s cousins resort on the other side of the
island. The resort is right on the beach and it was so pretty, we got there as
the sun was setting so it made it even more beautiful. There was a buffet with
all sorts of authentic Samoan foods like fish and a huge cooked pig! After we
finished eating we watched Samoan traditional dancing, which was so cool. They
performed all sorts of different styles of dancing and the favorite was the
fire dancing! We had a little extra time at the end of the show to go down to
the beach and feel the water. It was a perfect way to end our first night in
Samoa!
