Day 14... Monday, May 17, 2010

Our last day on the beautiful island was everything we wanted and more! The "to-do" list for today consisted of A. last minute shopping, 2. play "t-shirt santa claus" and D. get as much Samoan sun as possible!

Shopping was blissfully hot. We all got our last minute gifts from the flea market. I'm pretty sure Rae-Rae bought something for EVERY member of her entire family and extended family and their extended family! So thoughtful of her!

Post shopping, we finally loaded up the vans with boxes of shirts and made our way across the island to the Piula fresh water pool. Whilst traveling to the water, we threw out shirts to everyone we passed! We threw out a couple hundred shirts, and it was so fun! The kids and people would swarm the cans for shirts. They were just so happy, excited, and grateful to get anything. That was definitely a highlight! And on the way back we passed kids already wearing their new athletic shirts... priceless!

The fresh water pool was awesome! There were lots of fish for our snorkelers to marvel at and for Meagan and Dani to scream and avoid the water at all costs! The brave adventures did some cave hopping... well we swam thru a dark scary tunnel to the back cave. We were all getting the guts to swim thru the unknown, and the fearless and free-spirited 'Ilikea dove right down and did it, while it took Nate and me a few tries to finally step up and swim thru. Needless to say, it definitely wasn't as scary as we thought, and it was so worth it!

We spent a few hours at Puila in the sun, and got the sun-kissed look we were wanting! Really though, you can't go to a tropical island for a week and not come back with some color... unless your Nate :)

After a stop for some delicious ice cream, it was time to pack it up, eat our last Samoan meal, and head to the airport.

We enjoyed our last few moments in the heat and humidity, yes it was still hot at midnight... but we said our goodbyes and all made it thru security, it took some of us longer than others (we almost had to leave the Kiwi aka Daniel in Samoa!). We boarded the plane and watched as the beautiful island faded away into the dark night.

As sad as we were to leave, we were excited to be back in America! We had some incredible experiences that will be some of our most treasured memories.

Thank you to everyone who made it possible.
Thank you to the girls who are simply wonderful and made the trip so fun and exciting for me.
Thank you to Sam for organizing everything, giving us opportunities to serve, and for sharing with us his home and family.
It was a trip of a lifetime!

-this is Lacee aka the Sweet As Coach... over and out!
