Day 3... May 7, 2010

KiaOra Americans!
This is Kayli Broadbent signing on here to the UVU blog. Wow, where to begin!! Well, I am covering day 3 of this fantastic and eventful trip.
To begin our day we took a drive up a windy mountain where we saw 6-story houses running for a couple million dollars... the rainforest and location was really where the worth came from. Man it was pretty!! We stopped at a look out spot and took pictures (of course) and saw some breathtaking views of this GORGEOUS country we're in.
Then we were fortunate to be able to visit the black sand beaches of New Zealand! We went to Piha beach where after a half hour of picture taking (no exaggeration) we got our feet wet and walked the sands for a little. Sam has this new thing where he claims it's "his idea" to take a picture so he will only let one camera, 100% of the time it's his, so the picture taking process speeds up. It works every now and then but usually fails. The beach was AWESOME! the sand was black from the volcano there and there was a cliff area just beside where we all took a hike in our flip flops. Andrew was our "daredevil" and his wife Jess calls him and would climb down in the tide pools to fish us out a few crabs to play with and a star fish here or there. Of course our princess Dani finally got the courage to hold the crab only to have her be the only one it pinched.
We spent a while walking in the rocks and climbing for better views. After we had our fix of black sand beaches our ever so native Daniel took us to a fish 'n chips shop just off the beach. We had a nice native experience with our good "chips" and fish. After we made fun of Dani for being so terrified of birds (but let's be honest what animal isn't she afraid of ;) ) one just happened to poop on Sarah's head...what are the odds?
After the scenic drive, and Sam's van breaking down (the breaks started to smoke) we got back to the hotel to rest a bit before our match that night. We won our match in 5 against the New Zealand Institute of Sport. We traded shirts and made more friends. One of the girls we played against the night before returned to watch and added us all on facebook haha. She is a sweetheart.
The experience we're having here is amazing. And it's only day three. I miss my fiancee, but am very lucky to have my parents here with me. I can't even begin to thank Sam and the coaches for all they have done to make this possible. New Zealand is a goregous country, the people here are very welcoming and friendly. I tried to mimick their fun accent but they just laughed when I tried and said I should keep working on it. :)
Well that's all for now! We still get another week and a half on our trip and the best is yet to come!
This is Kayli, signing off!
xoxo
